How many floors does the new building have?

The new building has three floors. The third floor is administrative offices.

How much did the new building cost?

The construction cost of the new building is currently estimated to be approximately $6.9 million.

How will the library keep only customers parked in the new parking lot?

The library has always reserved parking for customers. There are twice as many parking spaces as at the old building. We are working with the school system, local law enforcement offices and towing companies to ensure parking for our customers.

What will happen to the library building located on Griffith Ave?

The Griffith Avenue Facility became the property of Owensboro Public Schools.

Where do I park my bike?

Due to safety concerns, all bikes must be parked in the bike rack located near the Reading Garden. Bike riding has become so popular we will be ordering another rack for your convenience.

Will the library keep the same hours?

Yes. The Library hours are Monday - Thursday 9am-9pm Friday 9am-8pm Saturday 9am-6pm Sunday 1pm-5pm

Will there be a larger elevator in the new building?

Yes, there will be one larger elevator in the new building.

Will there be automated doors for people with disabilities?

Yes. All plans for the new building were approved by the U.S. Department of Justice.

How many more parking spaces are there at the new library?

There are 116 parking spaces in the new building.

What new/improved services will the library offer with a new, larger facility?

- Additional shelving for the library collections - Program room for Youth Services - More public access computers - Wireless “hot” zones (in progress) - Express check out - Improved handicapped access

Will there be further increases to the library tax?

No tax increases, above the 4% allowed by the Kentucky State Statute, are planned for the future.
